This week's demo isn't actually "done" - I put too much on my todo list to knock everything out this week, but I've still made several minor improvements and there's a short dungeon to demo everything I have so far.
What's new:
- Battle screen improvements
- Item selection UI looks cleaner / updates when opened now
- Animation shows player healing on level up
- Bugfix where boomerang would target dead enemies
- Map screen improvements
- Secrets 'ping' when the player walks by them
- Overworld/cave tileset is much nicer now
- Added two new enemies
- Added item pickups
- Made a small dungeon to demo item pickups/new enemies/secrets
What's next (things I couldn't get this week):
- Nicer looking player sprite
- Player skills
- Fixing issue with shader on new enemies
- Looking into a bug with encounter rate in the cave
There's still a lot of room for improvement with the game's art, but I think it's starting to get to a point that's acceptable for playtesting/demos. Once I get the rest of what I wanted this week done, I want to focus on music and sound effects. I've been meaning to add some in for a while now.
Lessons learned:
- It's better to break up new features into small commits for Github - I did one large commit for item pickups and everything I needed to change to make those work, and that was not a smart idea.
